Meet "Lady Kate," the Fabric Whisperer
As stone speaks to sculptors, fabrics speak to me, their colors and designs demanding I help them discover what kind of quilt they want to be. I come by this passion honestly, being descended from three generations of needle-women and quilters, but unlike the bed quilts my grandmothers made, my quilts are small and purely decorative, designed as wall hangings and table runners.
I have been sewing all my life (for the last 28 years in Cincinnati, Ohio), but in 2014, I began making miniature quilts, playing with the tools of traditional patchwork--geometry and color--to create one-of-a-kind quilts to engage my customers' eyes and enhance their homes. Hand work is a high priority in my art. Though I stitch the pieces of fabric together by machine for sturdiness and precision, I quilt the old-fashioned way, by hand, using contrasting thread so that the stitches are easily visible. This adds another layer of complexity to the design. The borders all have mitered corners, and the bindings are hand-turned and hand-finished.
Each quilt is made of 100% high-quality cotton, with batting made of recycled plastic, and produced in a smoke-free, pet-free environment, for my sensitive customers.
I am happy to consider custom projects. Please consult the page on "Custom Orders" for details.
